The working group met in Vienna, Austria in November to develop protocols for marine and coastal habitats <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignfull back-content has-ast-global-color-5-color has-text-color has-background is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"background-color:#233173\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"inherit-container-width wp-block-group back_btn_button is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<button type=\"button\" onclick=\"history.back();\"> &lt;  Back <\/button>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns Post-content-news is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column p-con-left is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does sea have in common with nuclear power?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>11.-15. novembr\u012b <\/strong> LHEI senior researcher <strong>Anda Ikauniece<\/strong> participates in an international working group that met in Vienna, Austria and together developed protocols for collection, determination and quantity calculations of accumulated carbon (<strong>&#8220;blue carbon&#8221;<\/strong>) in coastal biotopes of seas and oceans according to uniform principles worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The working group within the framework of <strong>project No. 7022<\/strong> is organized by the <strong>International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)<\/strong>, and blue carbon is one of seven topics of the project intended for climate change assessment. Radioactive isotopes are used to determine the amount of carbon, so the IAEA has organized a global project to evaluate and, if possible, improve the quality of the environment in the seas and the ocean.
