Latvia has an obligation to limit phosphorus entering the aquatic environment in order to fulfill a number of international obligations (EU WFD and MSD and HELCOM BSAP).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GYPREG project proposes to reduce agricultural phosphorus loads by incorporating gypsum into the soil. <strong>Gypsum<\/strong> is a widely occurring mineral in Latvia with a so far little-studied potential to improve the ability of soil to bind phosphorus and thus reduce phosphorus entering surface and underground waters. As part of the project LIAE will conduct plastering trials in laboratory conditions on the most widely used agricultural soils in Latvia in order to demonstrate the efficiency of the method. In cooperation with project partners and target groups, <strong>examples of good practice<\/strong> will be adopted from Finland, where gypsum is widely used and subsidized by the state to limit
