Gypsum is a widely found mineral in Latvia with little-studied potential to improve the ability of soil to bind phosphorus. In Finland, soil plastering is subsidized by the state and, on average, this practice reduces the amount of phosphorus entering the aquatic ecosystems by <strong>60-80 tons<\/strong> every year.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the framework of GYPREG project LIAE will conduct plastering trials with gypsum under laboratory conditions on the most widely used agricultural soils in Latvia in order to demonstrate the <strong>effectiveness of the method<\/strong>. In cooperation with project partners from Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, <strong>examples of good practice<\/strong> will be adopted and the interest in plastering will be promoted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of 2023, we visited <strong>Finland<\/strong>, where the project kick-off meeting and field demonstrations took place. We even gave an interview to the local newspaper! href=\"https:\/\/lhei.lv\/lauksaimniecibas-fosfora-slodzes-samazinasana-veicot-izmainas-augsne-gypreg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GYPREG<\/a> is financed by the Interreg Baltic Sea region program and 8 partners will cooperate in the project from 2023 to 2026: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.syke.fi\/en-US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lammc.lt\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itp.edu.pl\/old\/en\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute of Technology and Life Sciences \u2013 National Research Institute<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/johnnurmisensaatio.fi\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">John Nurminen Foundation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raceforthebaltic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Race for the Baltic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ri.se\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">RISE \u2013 Research Institutes of Sweden<\/a>, organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/zemniekusaeima.lv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cZemnieku saeima\u201d<\/a> and LIAE.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column p-con-right
