Pētījumi zināšanu uzlabošanai par jūras vides stāvokli integrētās jūrlietu politikas ieviešanai (Nr. 2023/9)

The purpose of the agreement is to improve the knowledge and information base on the environmental status of the marine environment by conducting research (including obtaining data and information, performing analysis, developing methods, models and assessment systems regarding the state of the marine environment, the pressures affecting it and the mutual impact, as well as socioeconomic aspects), which is necessary for the program of measures to achieve and maintain a good state of the marine environment in accordance with the resolution of the European Parliament and the Council dated June 17, 2008 Directive 2008/56/EC establishing a framework for Community action in the field of marine environmental policy (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) and regulatory acts on the protection and management of the marine environment.

LIAE carries out work tasks of the Agreement. During the contract, it is planned to carry out research in 11 interrelated topics:

  • Improvement of methodology for development of the national assessment of status of the marine environment
  • Improvement of the evaluation system in the connection of loads created by human activities to the environment, including the connection of loads with the assessment of the environmental status
  • Non-indigenous species introduced as a result of human activity are present in such numbers that they do not cause adverse changes in the ecosystem
  • Benthic habitats
  • Ecosystems, incl. food webs
  • Eutrophication caused by human activities
  • A degree of pollution that does not cause adverse effects
  • Characteristics and amount of marine litter that does not harm coastal and marine environments
  • Characterization of underwater noise pollution in the sea and improvement of monitoring methods
  • Research-based support for marine spatial planning
  • Research on impact of climate change on the marine environment

The project is financed by VARAM (Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development from the foreign financial instrument – Program for the Development of Fisheries in 2021 – 2027, the 1st priority of the European Union “Promoting the restoration and preservation of sustainable fisheries and biological resources of waters”, 1.6. for the funds of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) intended for the implementation of the supported measure “Integrated Maritime Policy” of the specific objective “Promoting the protection and restoration of aquatic biodiversity and ecosystems”, project no. 24-00-U1010801-000001 “Research to improve knowledge about the state of the marine environment for the implementation of integrated maritime policy”.
