Smart platforms at Gulf of Riga and Moonsund (GORSMART)

Smart platforms at Gulf of Riga and Moonsund (GORSMART)

The goal of the project is to pilot smart platforms, or smart boys, used for monitoring the marine environment in the Gulf of Riga and Moonsund. In the future, smart buoys will enable the operational detection of possible marine pollution, significantly increasing the speed of authorities responding to pollution control incidents and reducing environmental damage caused by pollution. In addition, smart buoys make it possible to collect other necessary information about the marine environment, both for scientific purposes and for real-time use. The general purpose is supported by an analysis of regulatory framework and suggestions for improvements.

LHEI’s partnership in the project lies in the availability of technical expertise and human resources. The institute’s task is to support research development, add scientific approach, fine-tune technical details and suggest possible solutions for arising technical problems.
