Project “GEOSITES” kick-off meeting

We have started to work on project Enhancing protection and conservation of geological structures in Latvia and Lithuania (GEOSITES)! Yesterday, on May 6 project partners met at the kick-off meeting, which took place at “Valguma pasaule, Tukums in Kurzeme region.

During the meeting the work to be done was discussed – mapping and research of underwater geological formations in Lake Plateļi in Lithuania and the Alku Shoal in the Latvian Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea, as well as the inventory and categorization of terrestrial geological objects and the creation of digital and physical 3D models of geological objects.

The project partners are Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (lead partner), Kurzeme Planning Region in Latvia and Directorate of Žemaitija National Park in Lithuania. More about the project here: https://lhei.lv/en/project-geosites/

Project is implemented in the framework of Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Programme 2021–2027 with the aim of promoting the protection and sustainable management of geological structures.
