Information Webinar for Latvian Initiatives on BlueActionBANOS Funding Opportunities

Organisations and initiative leaders in Latvia working in the fields of marine and freshwater ecosystems, coastal areas and the blue economy are invited to participate in an online information webinar dedicated to the BlueActionBANOS open calls and funding opportunities for nature restoration and sustainable development initiatives.

The webinar will take place online on 28 January, from 14:00 to 15:00 (EET) and will be held in Latvian. Its purpose is to provide the Latvian audience with practical and focused information on available funding instruments, eligibility criteria and the application process within the BlueActionBANOS project.

Registration for the webinar is available

The event is intended for municipalities, non-governmental organisations, companies, scientific and educational institutions, professional associations and other organisations that implement or plan initiatives related to marine and freshwater ecosystem restoration, pollution reduction, climate adaptation and the development of a sustainable blue economy.

During the webinar, participants will learn how BlueActionBANOS contributes to the objectives of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”, which aims to support large-scale, place-based and community-driven solutions across European sea basins. The session will also provide an overview of eligible project types and applicants, explain the application and evaluation procedures, and present practical examples and inspiration from similar successful initiatives implemented across Europe.

BlueActionBANOS offers two funding schemes. The Community-Led Actions open call provides funding ranging from EUR 200,000 to EUR 2 million per project, supporting between five and fifteen community-led initiatives. Eligible applicants are consortia consisting of two to twelve partners, including NGOs, municipalities, research organisations, educational institutions and businesses. The maximum project duration under this scheme is up to 24 months.

The second scheme, the Transition Agendas open call, offers funding of up to EUR 100,000 per project and supports approximately ten initiatives focused on developing detailed transition agendas. These agendas outline concrete pathways towards local sustainability, ecosystem restoration, decarbonisation and climate resilience in line with the EU Mission Ocean objectives. Projects under this scheme may have a duration of up to 18 months.

BlueActionBANOS funding and methodological support are available to initiatives in Latvia as part of a broader Baltic Sea and European cooperation framework, encouraging cross-border learning, knowledge exchange and systemic transformation. The national contact point in Latvia for the BlueActionBANOS open calls is the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, which provides information and advisory support to potential applicants.
