New Video on Lake Ecosystems and Smart Technologies
A new video created within the Lakes Go Digital project invites viewers to look beneath the surface of lakes and discover the many ecosystem services they provide.
Lakes are much more than scenic places for recreation. They provide habitats for numerous species, help regulate water and local climate, supply natural resources, and create opportunities for swimming, fishing and other leisure activities. These benefits are known as ecosystem services, and many of them often remain unnoticed in everyday life.
To manage and protect lakes effectively, it is important to understand the processes taking place beneath the water surface. Within the Lakes Go Digital project, smart buoys are used as small monitoring stations that continuously track key water quality indicators.
By combining real-time monitoring with scientific fieldwork and laboratory analyses, researchers can identify environmental changes earlier and better understand the factors affecting lake health. The collected data are valuable not only for scientists, but also for municipalities and local communities, supporting more informed decisions about lake management.
