Final conference of Lakes connect project
On April 10-11 the final conference of Lakes connect project took place in Gizycko, Poland. The project partners from Latvia, Lithuania and Poland presented the results of the project – the obtained data on microplastic pollution, recommendations on how to reduce the pressure of tourism-related pollution in lakes and a network of stakeholders interested in cooperating in the future to improve lake environment.
LHEI Research Assistant Valentīna Burdukovska participated in the conference with a presentation on the project’s achievements in Latvia. During the conference, other projects implemented at LHEI and related to lakes were also presented – Senior Researcher Inta Dimante-Deimantoviča introduced the conference guests to “Trust Alum” project, while Environmental Engineer Alise Bebrīte presented floating islands in the “BioFloat” project.
During the conference we had the opportunity to visit the new educational center in the Masurian Lakes region (Masurian Center for Biodiversity and Nature Education KUMAK), where the values of local nature are shown in an interactive way. Great thanks to the project lead partner Biological and Chemical Research Centre of University of Warsawand Foundation for the Protection of the Great Masurian Lakes for hospitality!
