Introducing school students to microplastic research
On Friday, January 24, at the Nature House of the University of Latvia, we introduced microplastic pollution research to 9th-12th grade students from all over Latvia, who participated in the 47th National Biology Olympiad. LHEI senior researcher Inta Dimante Deimantoviča gave a lecture on microplastic pollution and, together with research assistants Elīna Vecmane and Valentīna Burdukovska, demonstrated the processing and analysis of microplastic samples with a microscope. Thank you to the students and teachers for the active involvement and interest!
Master class “Microplastics in seas and oceans” took place in the framework of European Social Fund Plus project No. 4.2.2.3/1/24/I/001 “Pedagogu profesionālā atbalsta sistēmas izveide” and with project “IcyPlastic”, “MP-Arctic”, “BioFLoat” and “Mikroplastmasas piesārņojuma dinamika un izplatība Latvijas un Islandes jūru un ezeru ūdeņos – jauna sadarbības virziena uzsākšana” support.
