Detect2Protect (D2P) activities in 2023

In 2023 the activities within the Detect2Protect project (LZP Agreement No. ES RTD/2023/26) primarily focused on preparatory measures across all work packages, particularly concerning the identification of suitable field research sites within the six Baltic Sea regions represented by partner countries.

Databases were created providing the available data from all project partner countries in order to describe state of the environment in the Sea Regions (represented by the partner countries) in order to successfully provide sample collection sites. Sampling sites were selected with the aim of being included in the official monitoring programs of participating countrieswith available historical data.

The sampling sites have been officially designated, and comprehensive protocols for biota and sediment sampling, encompassing both chemical and biological measurements (target pollutants, organisms for EBM analysis, and eDNA for biodiversity assessment), have been disseminated to all project partners. Initial samplings have already been conducted in select regions during the autumn of 2023.

Beyond the basic research activities, the project places significant emphasis on engaging stakeholders and disseminating information related to the integration of EBM into marine monitoring programs.
