On June 8 LHEI participated in the event with educational activities in the framework of project “CLEAN BEACH”
Fish Day in Kaugurciems
Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology spent June 8 on the sunny, sandy Kaugurciems beach. On this day Kaugurciems celebrated the culinary heritage festival, honoring local fishermen, historians’ stories about coastal life, and, of course, science!
The institute introduced CLEAN BEACH project to the seaside residents with exciting, educational activities. During the event LHEI information tent was open, where visitors could study microplastics through a microscope, learn about the properties of plastic in fresh- and saltwater and find out why pollution on the seashore is more visible than pollution in rivers. The participants of the Fish Day got introduced to the application Rosgis, where they can report microplastic pollution on beaches, and could get answers to their questions from LHEI researchers Inta Dimante-Deimantovica and Marta Barone.
