LHEI takes part in UNOC3 conference
On June 9-13 the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) is taking place in Nice, France. The conference is a regular high-level diplomatic policy event dedicated to the quality and functioning of the World Ocean ecosystems.
The conference is characterized by a large number of various additional events organized by organizations involved in ocean and sea issues. On June 11 Coalition Clean Baltic, together with LHEI and Foundation for the Development of the University of Gdańsk (FRUG) organized a seminar on underwater noise reduction technologies in the context of climate change “QUIET SEAS IN A CLIMATE TRANSITION: ALIGNING DECARBONISATION WITH OCEAN HEALTH”. LHEI senior researcher Anda Ikauniece led the seminar and expert discussion. The main conclusions of the seminar were:
- more noise measurements and data are still needed;
- sectoral cooperation should be increased;
- Carbon capture and storage technologies are not friendly to marine ecosystems.
