Informing about projects “CLEAN Beach” and “GYPREG”
While the Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival is taking place in Riga, participants can engage in various activities on environment and nature topics at the Knowledge Square in Vērmanes Garden. On Thursday, July 10 we were at the workshop of the environmental education project “MY GREEN FESTIVAL”, where we introduced the public to plastic pollution research and how to reduce eutrophication of water bodies using gypsum, the natural mineral found in Latvia.
Visitors of the LHEI tent were able to take a closer look at gypsum and beach sand samples containing microplastics. We talked about our on-going research and informed about the “Rosgis” app, where anyone can report plastic pollution in nature.
We are grateful to the visitors for the interest and active participation in the creative tasks!
The activities in the workshop were supported by the projects GYPREG and CLEAN Beach.
