Taking part in Sea Festival 2025 in Liepāja

On Saturday, July 12 the Sea Festival was celebrated in Liepāja, and once again we were happy to participate with educational activities about the marine environment! From 12:00 – 16:00, LHEI could be found at the beach, where we talked about marine life, current research areas and methods.

The visitors of our tent were able to aid with the scientific fishing net and examine the contents of the net, discovering the marine fauna along the coast. This was a popular activity and attracted a large number of people!

At our workshops visitors had the opportunity to find out what factors affect the quality of the marine environment and how scientists assess marine pollution. We introduced projects within which we measure pollution in our waters and find solutions to reduce it. Among other things, visitors got acquainted with microplastic pollution research methods and learned how gypsum can help fight eutrophication – the overgrowth of water bodies.

We’d like to thank Liepājas Kultūras pārvalde for the invitation to be a part of the Sea Festival! We hope to be there again next year! The full event program is available here: www.liepaja.lv/jurassvetki2025/

LHEI activities at the event were supported by projects LIFE REEF, Geosites, GYPREG and CLEAN Beach.
