On a mission for the European seas

The resolution of acutely important issues to the society initiated by the European Commission in the form of missions is taking place for already 3 years, including environmental challenges of the seas and oceans. The goal of the EU “Restore our Ocean and Waters” mission is raising public awareness of the need for solutions and active involvement in improving the quality of the environment.

Some of the largest engagement events are the mission arenas for the Baltic and North Sea regions, organized by Horizon Europe project BlueMissionBANOS. These forums were held for the third time – this time the event took place on November 26-27 in Amsterdam and was dedicated to the North Sea region and multi-use, management of protected areas, application of nature-based solutions and life cycle assessments for aquaculture enterprises.

Researcher Aurelija Armoškaite and Senior Researcher Anda Ikauniece from LHEI attended the event, participating in seminars on protected areas, future organization and management of mission activities, as well as licensing of macroalgae farms. New insights from the mission arena will help with further tasks within BlueMissionBANOS project, which were determined at the partner meeting on November 28 in Delft.
