Signed Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation in Antarctic Research

On May 3, 2025, a cooperation agreement was signed between Ukrainian State Institution National Antarctic Scientific Centre and Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology. The aim of the agreement is to promote scientific, technical, and logistical collaboration in Antarctica, including the organization of joint expeditions, exchange of data and samples, as well as support for exchange visits by scientists. Special attention will be given to topics such as climate change, Antarctic biodiversity, and environmental protection.

This is a significant initiative that strengthens the scientific partnership between Latvia and Ukraine, fostering Latvia’s involvement in international polar region research. The first collaborative initiative has already begun – the study on microplastic pollution in Antarctic rivers and glacial meltwater streams.
