Social-Ecological Analysis and Models for Digital Twin Ocean (SEADITO)
The EU mission “Restore our oceans and waters” aims to protect and restore our waters through research and innovation, citizen engagement and the promotion of blue investments by 2030. European Digital Twin of the Ocean (EDTO) aims to develop an accurate digital model of the Earth at a global scale to monitor, simulate and predict the interactions between natural phenomena and human activities. SEADITO project is developing a set of analytical methods and tools to support the development of EDTO, continuously integrating socio-ecological models to provide a decision support platform.
The research conducted within the framework of SEADITO will provide context for identifying user needs, co-designing and testing components and services for target user communities. “SEADITO” outputs will include practical, interoperable, spatially explicit and EDTO-compatible socio-ecological decision support toolkits, scalable socio-ecological models, integrated quantitative and qualitative socio-ecological indicators and workflows integrating cultural and behavioural aspects, as well as training materials. These tools will be designed to be directly applicable in real-world scenarios, ensuring the relevance of the project to stakeholders.
In the project LHEI will lead the development of socio-ecological indicators and stakeholder mapping. In addition, LHEI is conducting a case study, developing a model and a multi-map tool to analyze and visualize changes in what-if scenarios developed together with maritime spatial planning stakeholders, taking into account the potential of multi-use and service flows and benefits, to link Blue Economy development with social justice objectives in decision-making.
