TRUST ALUM webinar

Today within the framework of TRUST ALUM project, a webinar dedicated to target groups was held to introduce lake Velnezers treatment process, as well as demonstrate materials prepared during the project and discuss possibilities of implementing ALUM method in elsewhere in Latvia. The event was attended by more than 20 participants from Latvian municipalities, nature protection institutions and ministries, NGOs, as well as project partners from Sweden – Vattenresurs AB and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) – and Latvia – State Environmental Service and Ministry of Climate and Energy. The possibilities of implementing and financing ALUM method in Latvia were also discussed with policymakers.

During the seminar the following questions came up:

  • do aluminum compounds remain in the lake after the treatment and is it harmful?
  • which seasons are best suited for ALUM treatment?
  • why must the average depth of a lake be more than 2 meters?
  • how long does the treatment effect last?
  • how does the treatment process affect aquatic plants and fish?

The video shows how the research and treatment of lake Velnezers with the ALUM method took place last Fall. Video will soon be available in Latvian, too.
