Realizē pētniecības un izstrādes (R&D) projektus, izstrādā nacionālo novērtējumu un sagatavo informāciju direktīvu (HD, BD, WFD, MSFD, JTP) ziņošanai saistībā ar jūras bioloģisko daudzveidību, jūras telpisko plānošanu un aizsargājamām jūras teritorijām, projekta vadītājs un pētniecības koordinators. Vada starptautiskus un nacionālos pētnieciskos projektus, kas saistīti ar bioloģisko daudzveidību, ekosistēmu pakalpojumiem, jūras telpisko plānošanu, aizsargājamo jūras teritoriju identifikāciju un kartēšanu, svešzemju sugām un Balasta ūdeņu konvenciju.

Solvita Strāķe ir Latvijas Hidroekoloģijas institūta direktora vietniece un vadošā pētniece Jūras monitoringa nodaļā. Savu karjeru uzsāka nodibinoties LHEI, iegūstot bakalaura un maģistra grādu jūras (planktona) bioloģijā. LU Bioloģijas fakultātē 2009.gadā aizstāv doktora disertāciju par jūras zooplanktona bioloģisko daudzveidību un ekoloģiju, un iegūst doktora grādu hidrobioloģijas nozarē. Latvijas Hidroekoloģijas institūtā (+25 gadu ekspertīze) kā vadošā pētniece un starptautisku projektu vadītāja ieguvusi dziļas zināšanas jūras bioloģiskās daudzveidības, vides monitoringa, jūras aizsargājamo teritoriju, Baltijas jūras svešzemju sugu, bioloģiskās daudzveidības un jūras telpiskās plānošanas jomās.
