The European Researchers’ Night 2023 will take place on Friday, September 29. Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LIAE) in cooperation with Baltic Environmental Forum, writer Agnese Vanaga (author of the book “Plastic hooligans”), student sorority “Selga” and Nature Conservation Agency invite you to learn about the aquatic environment and discover the amazing underwater world by following an interactive route.There will be an opportunity to learn about research devices, try on a diving suit, explore the colorful underwater world, see transparent zooplankton and the world of microscopic algae.

Visitors will be able to strengthen existing and gain new knowledge about eutrophication, biodiversity, try out interactive activities in the Mobile Nature Classroom, learn how dangerous substances enter into the aquatic environment and how schoolchildren can join the new “Plastic Pirates” campaign. There will also be an opportunity to find out the first results on lake and pond water samples collected by students for research on Latvian lakes.

Student sorority “Selga” will organize a panel discussion on plastic pollution, which will be moderated by Uģis Joksts and in which opinions will be shared by representatives of various fields – LIAE Senior Researcher Inta Dimante-Deimantoviča, environmental expert Jānis Ulme, circular economy expert Edgars Čerkovskis, writer Agnese Vanaga and others.
